Optimum Nutrition: How To Protect Yourself From Swine Flu And Any Other Winter Nasty’s.
Winter is the time of the year we need optimum nutrition when loads of colds and flu’s appear and this year we have the added threat of Swine Flu. More and more cases are being discovered everyday in Australia. So what can you do to help protect yourself from contracting this deadly virus?
Traditionally, people that are the most vulnerable are the young, the old and the weak. But this new virus has even attacked the healthy. So you need to make your body as impenetrable as possible by building up your strength and immune system.
How to do this. Firstly eat healthy. Make sure you are consuming plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables for the high vitamin, mineral and fiber content. Choose a large variety with plenty of different colours. The different colours represent different vitamins so mix it up and consume some at every meal, 5-6 times a day. And make sure it is fresh. Fruit and vegetables lose a lot of their valuable nutrition if they have been transported and stored for several days or weeks.
Eat lean red meat for the high iron content, another immune booster and fresh fish for the valuable omega 3’s. Drink plenty of water to flush out any viruses that may be lurking and to keep you hydrated.
And exercise regularly. The human body is designed to operate at 100%. It is supposed to carry only enough body fat to provide it with energy and warmth to sustain it’s daily activities. If you are overweight, even 5 kilo’s, then your body isn’t able to work at 100%. If you consume high fat foods you are degrading your bodies natural ability to combat colds and flu’s and are becoming vulnerable to contracting the deadly Swine Flu.
